Dear Athlete, if you have decided to participate in our race and live a unique and unforgettable experience, you must be aware that you will find yourself running in a mountain environment, full of history and charm, but also pitfalls and difficulties. Therefore, before taking up the challenge, you must read these rules, and by registering to the race, you accept to respect them without reservation. 

GENERAL INFORMATION 

The Gruppo Sportivo Celano organizes the Ultra Sky Marathon of Abruzzo – Serra di Celano on Friday 01 July 2022, a mountain running or trail running race, in semi-self-sufficiency with a route in an alpine environment. The race will have a length of 96 km and a positive altitude difference of approximately 7340 meters. 

THIS REGULATION MAY BE INTEGRATED AND / OR MODIFIED BY THE ANTICOVID PROTOCOL IN THE COURSE OF PREPARATION AS PER NATIONAL OR SPECIAL RULES OF THE COMPETENT AUTHORITIES. 

Art. 1 “REGISTRATION” 

To participate, it is essential: to be at least 18 years old at the time of registration and own a valid competitive medical certificate and Eps or other federation membership; be fully aware of the length, the technical difficulties, the specificity of the test and be physically ready to face it; have a capacity for stamina and autonomy to manage and deal with complex and unpredictable climatic conditions (cold, wind, rain, fog, heat) and physical and mental problems deriving from fatigue (digestive problems, muscle, and joint pain, minor wounds, etc.). 

IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that you have completed at least one ultra-marathon competition in a mountain environment. 

The role of the Organization is not to help the rider manage his problems. The Athlete’s safety depends above all on his ability to adapt and his resistance. 

Online registrations will close at 24.00 on Sunday, 19 June 2022. 

Art. 2 “REGISTRATION FEES” 

Registration for the Ultra Greenhouse of Celano 2021 will cost 

  • € 75.00 until 28 February 2022
  • € 85.00 from 01 March 2022 until 01 May 2022
  • € 100.00 from 02 May 2022 until 19 June 2022 

There is no registration on site. 

Registration is completed on the date of payment of the fee.

The registration fee includes: 

  • race bib 
  • assistance and refreshments along the way 
  • race pack 

The registration fee is not refundable in case of non-participation in the race. However, in case of osteoarticular or muscular injuries of the non-chronic Athlete that cannot be cured by the date of the race (communicating it no later than 15 May 2022 with relative certification), the Organization will recognize 50% of the same for registration to Ultra Serra di Celano 2023.

Art. 3 “MEDICAL CERTIFICATION” 

It is mandatory to deliver a copy of the valid athletics competitive medical certificate when collecting the bib or by sending it via email, in addition to the registration card to a sports promotion body, under penalty of exclusion from the tender itself. 

Art. 4 “BIB WITHDRAWAL, COMPULSORY MATERIAL CHECK AND RACE PACK DELIVERY” 

The bib collection, compulsory material check, and race pack delivery will take place on Friday 01 July from 12.00 to 19.00 at the Val D’Arano Refuge, located in Ovindoli (AQ) in Via Arano, the place of the start/finish of the race. The technical briefing is scheduled for Friday 01 July 2022 at 18:30 at the Val D’Arano refuge and online from Sunday 12 June. The program could change due to the pandemic situation.

Art. 5 “SEEDS SELF-SUFFICIENCY” 

Semi-autonomy is defined as the ability to be autonomous between two refreshment points in terms of safety, equipment, and nutrition/hydration. Although there are seven refreshment points along the route (see Art. 6), the principle of individual running in semi self-sufficiency is the rule. In particular: 

  • Each runner must bring the compulsory material for the entire duration of the race. 
  • Sample checks will be carried out during the competition to verify the actual presence of the mandatory material, under penalty of immediate disqualification of the Athlete herself. 
  • The refueling points will be stocked with drinks and food to be consumed on the spot. 
  • There will be no disposable glasses. Water, cola, and salts can be consumed using personal bottles or water pockets, camel bags, and cups. 
  • At the start of each refreshment/water point, each runner must have the amount of water and food that will be needed to get to the next refreshment point. 

Obligatory material to bring with you throughout the race:

  • minimum 1.5l of water: bottle or camel bag (2 liters in case of intense heat)
  • food reserve: bars or similar;
  • mobile phone with Organization’s sos numbers in memory
  • waterproof jacket
  • n 2 headlamps with spare batteries;
  • whistle
  • thermal sheet
  • adhesive elastic band suitable for making a bandage or tear
  • trail running shoes
  • mask to be used as established by separate anticovid protocol

Strongly recommended material:

  • running pants or tights that cover the knee (can limit abrasion damage from an accidental fall);
  • hat or bandana;
  • telescopic poles (if used they must be carried for the entire ride);
  • sunscreen, petroleum jelly, or anti-chafing cream;

CHANGE BAG SERVICE: AT KM 63 (Secinaro Refuge) it will be possible to send a change bag. THE BAG CONTAINING THE PERSONAL MATERIAL MUST BE DELIVERED MAX 1 HOUR BEFORE DEPARTURE TO THE ORGANIZATION

Art. 6 “RESTAURANTS”

There are 7 refreshment points, with water, cola, salts, biscuits, raisins, bananas, fruit tart.

  • IV junction path Cai 10 (km 44)
  • V Rovere (km 54)
  • VI Sirente Refuge – Secinaro (km 63)

Art. 7 “DEPARTURE”

The meeting of the athletes is fixed from 8.30 pm at the Val D’Arano Refuge. At 9.30 pm will follow punching and verification of the mandatory sample material.

The start will be at 22:00 on Friday 1 July 2022.

Art. 8 “ROUTE”

The route of the Ultra Serra di Celano 2022 will follow the following itinerary:

Ovindoli riding stables, Curti Valley, Casca l’acqua path, historical path, Piazza Aia, Avenue behind the castle. Piccolomini Castle (Celano), Via dell’Aquila, historic path of the Serra di Celano pine forest, Savecetta path, top of the Serra, Monte Faito, San Potito, Pizzo d’Ovindoli, Ovindoli pine forest, Ovindoli, Cai path 9b, Monte Freddo Refuge , Vetta Monte Magnola, Path cai n ° 10, Monte Candele, Piani di Pezza, Rovere, path 14 Secinaro, M. Sirente, Sirente ridges, Monte di Canale, Monte San Nicola, Aielli loc. Le Surienti, Vado Castello, Defensa di Aielli, Cresta M. Etra, Macerola, Path of the Fairies, Maneggi d’ovindoli, Arrival Val D’arano Refuge 

The kilometers are not marked. In this regard, it is advisable to carefully study the route map provided by the Organization and the data on the reference site in the appropriate section. The Athletes must strictly respect the indicated race course. Running out of the official track, in addition to entailing penalties up to disqualification, will take place at the sole risk and peril of the competitor.

Art. 9 “SECURITY AND CONTROL”

There will be employees of the Organization on the route in constant contact with the base. There will be an ambulance in the arrival area with a doctor on board in contact with the helicopter rescue, ready to intervene in case of emergencies. Checkpoints will be set up along the route where Organization staff will monitor the passage of athletes. In case it is necessary to call the intervention of 118, including the possible use of a helicopter, the costs deriving from the intervention of structures external to those of the Organization, both before, during, and after, will be borne by the athlete, and they cannot be attributed to the Organization itself.

Any runner in difficulty can call for help:

  • showing up at a first aid station or the refreshment points
  • calling the emergency numbers printed on the bib
  • asking another runner to call for help

Each runner must assist all people in difficulty and notify the rescue.

Except in the event of force majeure, the competitor who wants to withdraw from the competition must notify the nearest control/refreshment point, chaired by the Organization’s staff, who will invalidate and register the bib. The runner must keep his canceled bib.

Art. 10 “ENVIRONMENT”

The race takes place in the protected regional natural park Sirente – Velino. Competitors must behave respectfully for the environment, particularly avoiding littering, picking flowers, or harassing the fauna. Anyone surprised to abandon waste along the route will be disqualified from the race and incur penalties by municipal, regional, or park regulations.

Art. 11 “WEATHER”

The race will occur in all weather conditions (except extraordinary situations). In the event of significant weather phenomena (intense storms, fog, etc.), the Organization reserves the right to change the route even at the last minute to eliminate any dangers or conditions of severe discomfort. In case of cancellation of the race due to force majeure, up to 15 days before the event, the Organization reserves the right to reimburse a percentage equal to 100% of the registration fee paid for those who request it in writing no later than 30 June 2022. In case of modification of the route, interruption or cancellation of the race for any reason independent of the Organization, no reimbursement will be due to the participants.

Art. 12 “MAXIMUM TIME AND TIME GATES”

The maximum time to arrive at the finish is 27:00 hours (and therefore by 01.00 on 3 July 2022).

Six time gates are established, under penalty of immediate disqualification:

  • Junction with CAI path n ° 11 / 11c at Km 20 no later than 6:30 hours from departure;
  • Ovindoli at km 27 no later than 10:00 hours from departure
  • Rovere at km 54 no later than 15 hours after departure
  • Sirente Refuge at Km 63 no later than 17:00 hours from departure.
  • Lupara valley at km 67 no later than 19:00 hours from departure.
  • Le surienti di Aielli at km 82 no later than 23:00 hours from departure.

A broom service will travel the route following the last competitor to help retirees and prevent any injured people from being left without assistance.

Art. 13 “AWARDS”

There are no cash prizes. However, prizes in technical material or in kind will be awarded to the first five absolute men and women athletes.

Art. 14 “IMAGE RIGHTS”

By registering, competitors authorize the Organization to use free, without territorial and time limits, still and moving images that portray them during their participation in the Ultra Sky Marathon in Abruzzo.

Art. 15 “DECLARATION OF LIABILITY”

Voluntary registration and consequent participation in the race indicate full acceptance of these regulations and any changes. By registering, the participant exempts the organizers from any civil and criminal liability for damage to persons and/or property caused by him or derived from him, which are not the result of serious breaches by the Organization. The tender will be UISP approved and insured for civil liability towards third parties.

Art.16 “INFRINGEMENT OF THE REGULATION / PENALTY – DISQUALIFICATION”

FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH ANTI-COVID REGULATIONS: IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION

Deviation that significantly reduces the route: Penalty 1 hour and 30 min.

Deviation that does not significantly reduce the path (for example, shortcut off the path): ¼ hour penalty

Absence of mandatory material: Immediate disqualification

Refusal of a compulsory equipment check: Disqualification

Refusal abandonment (voluntary act) by a competitor: Immediate disqualification

Failure to assist a person in distress: Disqualification

Scam (ex: use of a means of transport, sharing of the bib, personal assistance outside authorized areas, unauthorized pace assistance): Immediate disqualification

Bib not visible: Penalty ¼ hour

Dangerous behavior ascertained that it causes danger to others: Penalty 1 hour and 30 min.

Failure to pass a checkpoint: Disqualification

Refusal to comply with an order from the race management, from a doctor: Disqualification

Departure from a checkpoint after the deadline: Disqualification

Any complaints must be made no later than 1 hour after the end of the event in written form, to be presented to the competition judges or managers of the Organization.
